The theatrical production can be at once funny, painful, and incredibly humane. This is exactly the play “Tev’ye-Tevel” – a tragicomic story based on the works of the famous Jewish writer Sholom-Aleykhem about a man trying to hold on to the familiar world as life relentlessly changes its rules.
Tev’ye and his daughters
According to the plot, a simple milkman Tev’ye lives in a small Anatovka. Every day he pulls his old cart with milk, trying to earn as much as possible, and above all wants his p’five daughters to be happy. It would seem he has a clear idea of how life should turn out: children should respect traditions, form families, and continue the usual way of life. But as the daughters grow up, Tev’ye gradually has to reconsider his own beliefs.
The daughters fall in love, make independent choices, and are not always ready to live by their father's rules. Love conflicts with traditions, and every new decision becomes a trial for the family. Tev’ye faces a difficult choice: to hold on to the familiar world or accept that children have the right to their own path. And each time an answer is especially hard to find, he turns to his main interlocutor – God. But will he find the desired answers there?
Laughter through tears and faith in the better
The play “Tev’ye-Tevel” – is not just a story about family conflicts and changes. It has a lot of warm humor, wit, and music that help the characters get through difficult moments. Here laughter often arises exactly where tears well up in the eyes, and serious themes gradually unfold behind everyday situations – love, parenthood, forgiveness, loss, and the need to let go in time.
This is a play about a world that changes regardless of whether we are ready for those changes. About parents who have to learn to accept adult children, and children who seek their own path. About traditions that can be a support but are not always able to respond to the challenges of the new time.
And even when Tev’ye's dreams are destroyed one after another, he does not lose the main thing – faith and hope. He continues to work, talk to God, and seek his way!
«Тев’є-Тевель» – трагікомічна історія за мотивами творів Шолом-Алейхема, що розповідає про простого молочника Тев’є з маленької Анатівки. Він працює, мріє про достаток, турбується про свою велику родину та найбільше прагне одного – щастя для своїх п’ятьох дочок.
Та життя раз у раз випробовує його переконання. Дочки дорослішають і самі обирають власний шлях, кохання руйнує усталені правила, а світ навколо змінюється швидше, ніж Тев’є встигає його прийняти. Перед обличчям втрат, розлук і непростих рішень він знову і знову звертається до свого головного співрозмовника – Бога.
Це історія про батьків і дітей, традиції та зміни, любов і прощення, про здатність людини не втрачати надії навіть тоді, коли одна за одною руйнуються її мрії.
У світі Тев’є сміх народжується крізь сльози, а поруч із драмою завжди залишається місце для теплого гумору, дотепності та музики. Бо яким би складним не було життя, воно продовжується.
І Тев’є продовжує свій шлях – зі своїм візком, своїми мріями, запитаннями до Бога та незламною вірою в те, що попереду все-таки має бути щось краще.
